Since 2025, Manja Unger-Büttner has held the newly established Chair of Design Research, specialising in design philosophy and ethics, at Dresden University of Applied Sciences, and has been Programme Director of the Master’s programme in Creative Direction.
She studied integrated design at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau, as well as philosophy, literature and cultural studies in Heidelberg and Dresden. Since then, she has worked as a freelance designer and as a lecturer in ethics, design and media philosophy, as well as academic writing in conjunction with artistic research, across various Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in industrial, communication and media design.
Her research lies at the intersection of (meta-)ethics and aesthetics.
She is a member of the Council for Education, Science, Design Teaching and Research of the German Design Day, the Education Committee of the German Cultural Council, and the VDID project group ‘Ethics.Design’.
