Nicole Ruta

Nicole Ruta is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies and she is particularly interested in investigating research questions that originate from art practice and art history. Her research bridges art and vision science, exploring the affective connotations of mid-level visual properties, like symmetry and curvature, and their applications in art, visual language, architecture, fashion and design. In 2024, she received the Alexander Gottlieb Baumgarten Award for Outstanding Contributions of Young Scientists.

She is passionate about creating physical and virtual spaces that facilitate multidisciplinary dialogue around core issues relevant to the arts, as reflected in her collaborative activities, including the co-curation of the collective exhibition artasrevelation.org and the co-hosting of the Art in Conversation (ArC) seminar series.

She is a co-funder of CREA: Crossroads of Research and Experience of Art, a yearly in-person workshop for sharing knowledge and developing innovative research with both academic and practical applications in museums. For the inaugural 2024 edition she created freely accessible visual notes to disseminate CREA’s insights with a broad audience, aiming to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world art practices.
