Barbara Lersch

Chief Programme Officer World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026

keynote speaker

Barbara Lersch is a cultural manager with a focus on (social) design, urban transformation, and societal development. Since 2024, she has served as Chief Programme Officer for the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, where she is responsible for the programme under the theme “Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a Better Life.” At its core lies the question of how design can contribute to strengthening democracy and improving social coexistence.

Previously, she worked for nearly ten years at the Hans Sauer Foundation, where she led projects on participatory urban development, interdisciplinary knowledge transfer, and social transformation processes. During this time, she developed numerous formats and collaborations at the intersection of design, public interest, and social innovation. In parallel, she worked as an independent cultural manager for various projects, organizations, and institutions.

Her interdisciplinary approach combines cultural practice, strategic programme development, and social engagement into a holistic framework that understands design as a tool for change.
